The Art of Acceptance and Influence: Lessons of Life-Good and Bad

If you have lived a full life you will have explored its edges and it's core (Some do this more than others as it is an internal drive.). The breadth of experience can lead to greater insight and layers of understanding. At the very root of that is the belief that we have control. Control over life happenings, control over our world, the ability to control our environment so on and so forth. The truth is we do not have control but we do have influence. We can share our experience and that can resonate with other's shared experiences.  If they make a connection you know they have resonate experiences and similar values.

You can consider reading a little philosophy on  Stoicism and Acceptance

We are a herd people, like all people, and we are open to the falacies of the loudest mouths in the room that seek to influence others for self gain (I wouldn't run a serious organization with the loudest mouths method because it comes with manipulation and power over events). Loud and demanding is a successful tool even though it is slightly less successful than a whisper.

This study helps us understand that it is possible to overcome the herd.  Evidence for a two-step model of social group influence. It also lets us know that you can influence other people to make different choices. While you may not have control you still have the ability to influence and that can have positive impact on group behavior. If you don't then the herd may be led the the cliff.

For example, I invented a few things within my lifetime and almost each time someone copied and or tried to claim the work for themselves even though they had nothing to do with it. The last time less successful because I'm older and wiser (It was free...but the dishonesty didnt impact their careen negatively so it is an indicationof values. So they are out there as a role model with some of the worst values I have seen teaching others to be dishonest and aggressive.).

While I cannot control people's greed and actualized values, I can accept that some people are like that and take some precautions so that good overcomes bad. People are not always as honest as they pretend to be and it is part of human nature much like the more positive aspects of human character like integrity (Human behavior is a spectrum). You cannot control the bad but you can encourage the better.

Another example might by the hypothetical thought experiment on hate and extremism (justice default and then dehumanization) within a clan based system. Violations of human/civil rights, protection of hate behaviors, rewarding perpetrators and retaliating against whistleblowers. Change is unlikely because the incentives are not present for change creating first and second class citizenships status on an actualized level. You can try to encourage a higher moral conscious (despite the risks.)

Lesson: You can't control bad things in the world but you can influence others to make better choices next time (..assuming they have the capacity to learn and again you have no control over that either!).

Truth at last cannot be hidden. Dissimulation is of no avail. Dissimulation is to no purpose before so great a judge. Falsehood puts on a mask. Nothing is hidden under the sun.”― Leonardo da Vinci
