Opera and the arts are a big part of San Diego and its culture. It must be something in the sun and beaches that create an atmosphere of fun. If your on vacation and thinking of something to do try an Opera once. You might want to make a night out of it, dress up, dine at a nice restaurant and then hit the Opera. Perehaps a night cap after at your favorite cocktail bar. Sounds fun to me! (Ok I went by myself this time and it was just as great.)
