Deep Water Rescue for Lifeguards (Video)

Underwater rescue is an important skill that lifeguards develop through their certification and continued training. Lifeguards should always be willing to learn, ask questions, and seek guidance from those with more experience. Often, conversations with experienced professionals can provide valuable insights and help improve skills. Keeping up-to-date and learning is important for personal mastery and in many ways for the people you are helping.

The video below discusses some of the techniques and considerations involved in underwater rescue. Having open-water certification can be especially beneficial because it requires additional skills and practical testing beyond what is typically required for pool certification. Ocean lifeguard certification is another level entirely (...thinking about it and the physical requirements. 500 meters Mission Beach 10 minutes for SD lifeguards as well as sprinting.), with additional challenges and skills that many lifeguards may consider pursuing in the future.

This video reflects how I approach learning. I may take a class or train with others, but I also believe in continually expanding my knowledge base. Regardless of the activity, I enjoy learning something new each time I revisit a topic. Even watching this video again, I picked up a few additional ideas and techniques that I can apply.

There is always a need for lifeguards, both locally and in other communities. While lifeguarding is more of a hobby and a community activity for me, it is still something that must be taken seriously because people’s safety depends on it. At the same time, there is something rewarding about being outdoors, enjoying the fresh air, staying active, and having another reason to maintain physical fitness.

I also have certifications as a fitness trainer and yoga instructor. If you are interested in affordable virtual fitness training, feel free to reach out. It is something I do on the side as a hobby, and I also try to donate some of the proceeds to charity. muradabel (at) g mail (dot) com.

In the meantime, check out the video below. It provides a great overview of many of the skills we learn as lifeguards and offers useful information that can help continue improving our abilities.
