NFPA 2023 Firefighter Survey Indicates Fewer Injuries in 2023-Type and Amount (No Serious Injury Local Fire)

NFPA released the results of a firefighter injury report covering 2023. It is a survey they conduct that helps fire departments understand and avoid future injuries.  It also helps departments craft their own policies. You can read United States Firefighter Injuries

A couple of highlights from the Survey

-63.1K firefighters injured which is a decrease of 4% overall

-Firefighters are most likely to be injured on the fireground (...the area where firefighers work on an active fire. Lots of movement and hazards. People put a lot of effort into these scenes and its not an easy task.).

-The most common type are strains, sprains and muscle pains 57% of injuries (Try lifting a hose and you will understand.).

-19.2K vehicle collisions of which 550 from collisions in personal vehicles.

Escanaba recently had a fire at the Stonehouse Restaurant that consumed the building. No serious injuries despite the difficult frigid conditions, ice and bellowing flames. Everyone did a great job being safe! Training is the key to safety and effectiveness. Overwhelming community support and that is one of the reasons why people chose to live and invest here. Come and visit.

*Poking around to drum up $50K approximately in grants to think about setting up a basic fire awareness course(i.e. 6 weeks ish). Something that includes leadership skills, general fire training, CPR, and training  equipment. My thought is that is raises basic fire awareness in the community, helps develop leadership skills, and the equipment can be shared to enhance other local departments. If there is a company out there that wants to donate send me a message and I will point you in the direction of a great fire department that works well with the community. Tax free!
