Escanaba City Council Meeting November 5th, 2026: Fish, Docks, Cameras, Orange Street Markers, Ice , and Positive Projects

The meeting highlighted several exciting improvements and projects taking place throughout the community. There is a lot happening, from beautification efforts to expanded recreational opportunities, and it is encouraging to see the community continuing to grow and improve.

Digital nomads and fishing.
One particularly exciting possibility is the development of a new fishing dock. This would be a wonderful addition! Perhaps we can consider encouring state officials to stock the area with more fish through a fishery or something that could make it even more enjoyable for residents and visitors (From a sustainable standpoint finding ways to maximize tourism fishing revenue and using that to enhance the local fish market might be an interesting idea. It would take some coordination on licensing, events, activity, etc.). Fishing is a great recreational activity, and a dock would provide a convenient place for people to cast a line and enjoy the outdoors.

The fishing dock could also become a fun attraction for tourists. Perhaps visitors could obtain a day fishing license locally, possibly through the office, and enjoy fishing right from the dock. This could create another enjoyable recreational opportunity for both residents and visitors. (Remember we have to put some of that revenue into the fishing population. We can bring back the Great Lakes fishing industry if we work together. Few believe these things until they happen because the world needs fresh fish and the cost parity is changing along with the technology to solve the problem.)

There are also several important improvements underway, including repairs, security camera upgrades, and water tower beautification. Perhaps the community could even consider adding another water tower with a smiley face! It is always nice to see projects that add character and personality to the area.

The decorative orange street marker posts are another nice touch. These small but thoughtful details help give the community its own identity and create a sense of local pride. This is important for people who want to eventually create a cohesive brand for the area.

It was also encouraging to see so many people participate on Election Day. Having the opportunity to make their voices heard is important, especially when local decisions have such a meaningful impact on the community. Even more importantly at the Federal level.

Finally, the new ice park rink is exciting news! With winter approaching, having an outdoor skating opportunity will be a wonderful addition and something families and community members can look forward to enjoying.

Overall, it is great to see so many positive projects moving forward. From recreation and beautification to safety and community involvement, these improvements all help make the area a better place to live, visit, and enjoy. Keep up the great work!
