Fishing Adventure #4: Yellow Perch Confusion Tactics

The other evening I went out for a swim hoping while we still have these beautiful summer evenings. I checked out a new fishing spot, but the water was pretty rough on one side, so I stayed on the calmer side instead. I quickly discovered my artificial bait had disappeared somewhere along the way, which probably explains why the fish weren't exactly lining up to bite.

With fishing temporarily off the table, I just enjoyed the swim and watched a big school of yellow perch doing endless circles (Yep I got to do something out there.). I later learned they do that to find food and confuse predators. Apparently, they decided I was the predator—although with no bait, I wasn't much of a threat.

That gave me a crazy idea that if you can find a large school of fish on a fish finder then you can plop yourselve into the middle of it while they swim around you. Maybe it would work. 🤷 Like shark. 

I also left my keys and cellphone on the beach while I was in the water. A woman walking her dog stopped to check it out, and from a distance I was thinking, "Please don't inspect my car keys!" She was just curious and moved on, but it convinced me that a waterproof dry bag is probably a better investment than another lure the fish won't let me keep.

Summer doesn't last forever, so I'm making the most of these evening swims while I still can.
