Escanaba City Council Meeting (March 06, 2025): Good Acts, Clean Water, Community Engagement and Social Learning (Civics and Government)

A few interesting discussion points that include sharing good activities, filtered water, and committee engagement. What is most interesting is that the community is growing, developing, and has active participation by informed citizens. It is that enthusiasm that is learned, shared and emulated in the community in a way that encourages others to do the same.

Further, as more people engage and interactions are created (quantity and quality connections), the more positive development and growth (i.e. the social quality of life factor in economic growth and investing. It relates in part to interactive transactions in theory.).

Three Main Points:

-Community engagement is important in creating a 'sense of community' that is displayed in high volunteer broad/committee engagement.

-Officer fosters leadership examples in the community. Young people look at role models such as this in a way that influences their own personal development. Rewarding and praising people who do helpful things benefits everyone (Good PR and good for the community).

*As a side note, the department is hiring so if you’re interested in serving your community you might consider applying. Escanaba Open Positions (If I was an officer and wanted to get out of the city and raise my kids in a beautiful small coastal town like this, I might look for open positions. Escanaba is a place where people boat, vacation, fish, converse around campfires, attend concerts, hike, ski, and engage in the many artistic and community venues.)

-It is good to know that the city has some of the best water around and continues to improve it through doing things like changing filters. Clean water is now good for you according to doctors (Amazing discovery.). This town is a model of for clean water and outdoor life. Add a little yoga in the park and you might go Zen.

All of these activities help teach what is expected of community members and how to be involved. Once the expectation is set, we carry it and encourage it in others. That is one thing that sets this place apart. Notice the three observational styles of learning and we can perhaps discuss later. Of particular interest is symbolism as a line of learning.Social Learning Theory
