Timing is everything and when your in the right place, at the right time, with the right challenge and the right skills you can see leadership in the making. As the city envisions its future it should think about some of its long term goals and how to engage the community in helping them achieve such goals. To maintain the most stable mix of community elements one should think of economic and social developoment as two sides of the same coin. The economic side are things like the jobs, businesses and opportunities that keep young poeple at home (Ok not like at home home mouching but in the area instead of leaving which was once customary for this area.). The other side is the social development which quality of life such as recreation, parks, events, so on an so forth.
Keeping people engaged through encouraging active participation can make a big difference in putting to work the many hands that make transformation happen. As a bonus, it can also save money in a way that reduces governmental costs (i.e. beautification/botany clubs, blight clean up groups, volunteer community patrols, education/school volunteers, etc.). You can read about Project Future and Community Vision. (...or you can spend a little more time in the woods to experience have your own insightful vision.)
