The Wealthy Drive Consumer Purchases. Are entrepreneurs the champions of communities?

Things fall into place when your wealthy reaping the rewards of good schools, nice neighborhoods, opportunities, cushy jobs and the ability to spend baby spend! Dreaming what life would be like with millions in the bank....(Actually, money isn't the most important thing in life but it does help and it helps do good stuff when used for prosocial lofty purposes. Make money, live a good life and do good with it.)

Half of Consumer Spending Driven by The 10% Wealthy Top

The other day I had a conversation on the benefits of capitalist and one was increase in wealth and general well being of society. On average capitalistic societies do better than others. We also discussed some of the risks that include over concentration of wealth, policies that cater to wealthier individuals, and the general difficulties of small business to compete in certain fields that lead to empty downtowns.

One solution would be to ensure small business can start, obtain funding and can support families to continuously generate wealth locally. Responsive to community needs through broadbased grassroot capitalism. Innovation can change markets and lead to competitive advantages when a small business invents something and capitalizes on it to expand industry locally. The entrepreneur could be the new champion in wider wealth creation and the protector of capitalism's long term resilience.

Keep in mind these are philosophical discussions and there are many reasons to agree and disagree.

Escanaba City Council Meeting (February 20, 2025): Clean Water, Community Engagement, Business

Good news is that Escanaba is doing very well on these issues and is a model for other places in terms of water quality. The risks of heavy metals are something that is impacting many other communities due to years of not understanding how pollution functions and its impact on us. Heavy Metals Water.

We are likely going to find these issues in some cities and towns because for years we didn't understand or address well. We don't often think of environmental impacts in our economic calculations.

Likewise, there is a cost to environmental regulation that can slow down business. Someday we may create the technology to completely reverse environmental impact (fingers crossed).

Thinking about the water quality is important because people want to live and do business where they know the water is clean. That is something the city does well. Hats off! It may seem small, but it does have a level of importance for the health of community and in some ways be a tipping point in a decision to start a local business where one can live.

Two new businesses appear to be coming to town which includes a hospice center and a warehouse.

Also, you will see that the community is filling up the boards and being involved and that is a good thing. People in many other places don't take much stake in city governance but here people are involved and active.

Bird Extinction Reduced with Increased Biodiversity (Nature and Science)

Who doesn't like watching birds? Birds are a highly intelligent creatures that are influenced heavily by their environment and disruptions in migration patterns. Some species are more sensitive than others and their numbers decline under various circumstances.

According to this study overall health of biodiversity reduces bird species risk of extinction. Diversity and extinction risk are inversely related at a global scale

Maintaining the Highest Commitment to Justice (Corruption and Hate Thought Experiment)

Justice is and always has been an important part of social life because it sets the playing field and the underlining rules of society. Those rules applied fairly create an environment where business and individuals can foster because of the shared interest in maintaining the rule of law (An example might be how the Renaissance was influenced by certain freedoms and sharing of knowledge that led to wider innovations). In our hypothetical philosophical example justice defaulted based on variance of differences between the perpetrators and victims. The victims have no recourse and that appeared intentional to force a local social order where some are benefited and others disadvantaged (A little like a gang or cartel).

In this learning example the victims were not only out-group members but were also targeted to help enrich members of a social group (known as "The Clan"). During that process a wider network of corruption was discovered leaving victims unprotected (In this example they were really good at coordinating various elements as though it was done many times before.). The laws, the rules, the purpose of justice derailed to protect what they see as their own. While the vast majority of officials that work in these fields do so with honor and integrity, we do sometimes have social networks and extreme beliefs that can derail justice.

[It is important to support the institution and its high functioning becaue it serves an important purpose in society. Serve being a key word here. People put themselves at risk everyday to protect us and there is no higher honor than this. Think about that for a second. We respect vets because they would throw themselves into harms way to protect society. We should extend such respect to good officials who would do no less. When was the last time you put yourself at risk to help people, your commmunity or save a life? Sometimes, when rogue elements undermine that trust and the good efforts of honorable people we have to correct to improve not only functional capacity through adaptation that comes from feedback but also encourge good people to also join/serve their communities. i.e improve recruitment.]

Other victims eventually came forward to lodge complaints and the information was intentionally shared with perpetrators and retaliated against to protect "The Clan". A few have gone as far to say there is preference in local court outcomes and preferences in the very application of law (One can't say if it is true or not but it is possible based on people's concerns and realized outcomes in this hypothetical example.).

Some of the examples include intentionally damaging kids for financial gain, manipulating of sick elderly, retaliating against whistleblowers, sexual coercion of vulnerable females, missing drug money, coordinated violence/intimidation, pushing underage victims to commit suicide, cover ups of evidence, freedom of speech violations, targeting people who practice certain religions, etc. All the bad things one can think of.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคจ

(Again, these are just examples put together that create an understanding of some risks if a certain logic and line of thinking is used by and acted on by an inner group. If you trace those complaints and issues back you can define the edges of who is involved.  Add that to other evidence from various sources and a fuller picture emerges. In this example people talk about who is and is not above the law due to these social connections. Awareness seems to be a natural check on unfettered advantage)

This would indicate in this example there is not a commitment to the health of the institution, the laws by which that institution is mandated and the essential values of the system (Its just a philosophical discussion so relax because it will have a positive end.๐Ÿ™†). It was easier to force the victims to accept the outcomes of hate and corruption than it was to change or adjust toward full functioning. The bad actors of a clan based system sought to protect itself and in that process the local decision makers discounted the lives and values of the victims (In the example investigations into clan members blocked but opened on people who raised concerns as pattern.)

We can of course change this and we need to do that for the health of the system as well as to protect future victims. Change can be a good thing when it takes rogue elements that work against trust in the system that negatively piggy backed on the positive societal good will toward faithful men and women who serve honorably every day. We should support a strong, functioning justice system that is in alignment with our national values and raises up lofty forefounder ideas such as liberty and justice for all. That will be hard if we do not willingly change or accept opportunities to reach to the next rung needed for a new era.

Many of us have more patriotic faith than others that justice will eventually prevail despite those who actively undermine it and the overall health/trust of the institution. (Think about the damage such networks who engage in hate and corruption do to the whole system. Really take a minute and think about it, as we seek to create high levels of trust and performance.). We have faith that good can overcome wrong and eventually can chisel away at the hearts of stone that did the opposite of what would have been expected, needed or legal. Trust in the long-term purpose versus the tempest of the times.

I looked around for some resources and found this pretty good analysis from Yale on corruption (A top notch school for rich kids. Attracts talent like Harvard. They both do a lot of research. I took three classes from Harvard. For a humble beginning guy like me that received nothing, perhaps less than nothing, from anyone I thought it was pretty cool. Notice where the hard knocks empathy comes from. My other path in life would have been a contractor and built houses or a small business owner. Choices and responsibilities....). Seems very well written. A little dated now. Trust, Honesty, Corruption

There are the smaller and bigger responsibilities to society. This seems fitting for this discussion.

"Whenever the people are well informed, they can be trusted with their own government; that whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, they may be relied on to set them to rights." Thomas Jefferson to Richard Price, January 8, 1789

*This is a hypothetical philosophical thought experiment for learning purposes. A wider point on freedom of speech and religion. A typeb model formed with 4 stages. 1. Default, 2. Dehumanization, 3. Acceptance, 4. Community resilience. Not sure if there is a 5. Thinking about it. Take with a grain of salt and feel free to aggree or disagree. Many different perspectives of the same issue and they are important issues that warrant mature dialogue. If it generates discussion it has done its duty.

Fostering Critical Thinking When Reading Opinions (Sociology and Society)

Fostering critical thinking when reading media and listening to public opinion is helpful for people for assessing topics of interest. Just about every topic has many different opinions. Solving complex problems requires understanding multiple counter key points, evaluating their merits, and setting a course. Sometimes it is best to just continue to evaluate before coming to a personal conclusion. It is ok not to know the answer and often that is a sign of intelligence.

[Some people may know all the answers but when you probe them a little you find out these are not their opinions but the opinions of others.]

I found this article a little interesting.Gallup: Americans' Trust in Media Remains at Trend Low

When we flip through and browse social media we will notice that certain channels and outlets have a definite political perspective they are advocating.  Different media outlets have different political viewpoints that attract specific demographics. We might select them because we like what they say (be careful of the illusions of your own bias).

The risk to covering one perspective and not giving balance to another is that the ultimate purpose of public awareness and social discussion is not a full one. Some ideas are not discussed even though they may have merit for solutions. Media can foster social discussion on the topics of the day.

To solve complex problems I think one must be able to first see the opportunities and then evaluate them. Just like you wouldn't trust the opinion of a friend who comes to the same conclusion everytime no matter what the factors, one wouldn't want to get all of their information from one source.

The study below helps think about how when we really want and believe something we move down a logical and emotional chain that creates an illusion. The more alternative factors are ignored, the greater the illusion.

The illusion of argument justification

When I reflect on this quote I think the importance of a free press and the responsibility to cover topics openly, balance and fairly in order to truly create knowledge in the public so they can make their own decisions as informed citizens of a republic.

“The liberty of the press is essential to the security of freedom.” John Adams

Investment Research Using US SEC Resource (Cluster Research)

The process of investing is something that is of interest as it is the lubrication that keeps the rest of the system humming along. Understanding investing and how investors think is helpful for designing policies that attract investors/businesses to a city/town.

I am hoping to build a model that attracts investment interest to places like Delta County/Escanaba which is becoming an emerging hot spot. Significant investment projects have started over the past few years that includes tourism, industry, and beautification. Likewise, there have been changes in perspective and many people are working together to accomplish shared goals. Local institutions are becoming more effective and efficient and budgets are for the most part in the green. The foundations are present.

My stock development strategy includes finding a balanced hedge in stocks so there is resilience and adaptability to market conditions.  That teaches me how different industries function under real time factors. Not to mention that research funds are limited and generating an income source provides freedom of thought and supports self research. There were times when it was up to 90% return and now somewhere around 36% which is still pretty good. Lately my crypto and bit mining AI software type stocks got hit pretty hard.

In general I look for trends in the market, emerging fields, and solid development.  Likewise I have preferences for American businesses.

I thought this was an interesting resources because one can research the company and it's SEC findings. Information is king in decision making. Resources help fill gaps in knowledge.

Art and Its Ability to Influence (Art)

Art is a complex symbolic, emotional and data infused display of fundamental truths. It allows us to discuss topics that are difficult to process for many members of society, things people don't want to acknowledge or topics that are looked upon with retributive disdain. This is why freedom of speech in literature and art is fundamental to solving societal problems. It shares perspectives that must be addressed to resolve effectively and helps us stay focused on our societal purpose to thrive socially and economically.

This painting is of hate unchallenged and unchecked with free reign to do what it wants where it wants to do it-unrestricted. It is like a subconscious storm that consumes what it touches and rages its projections onto all that is good as symbolized in the turbulent water, red, and dissipating clear sky's in front of it. The cloud is like a heart showing how deep some believe in promoting hate because of their core beliefs. After the storm of hate blows through like a hurricane there is awareness of its destructive capacity and ultimately a new order forms off the aftermath from new knowledge and awareness.

Sometimes the truth is glaringly clear that when certain behaviors cause carnage we are underprepared and lack commitment between word, belief, and action. This ties to a theoretical hypothetical thought experiment that explores when systems intentionally do not correct, reward criminal behaviors of in group members and gross negligence has harmed multiple members of the community with no recourse. Lack of moral conscious is apparent. The whole has suffered even if they don't have the experience to understand reverberation of failure to adapt and improve.

After the storm, a newer truth and order arises and creates a positive outcome that can come from even the darkest of defaults (hypothetically). The thought experiment should be taken with a grain of salt but ultimately the knowledge will strengthen the whole through the learning the necessity of greater alignment between oaths, law, purpose and action. Some will never understand the need to always stay faithful to higher principles. Most do and that is a good thing. A different kind of ❤️.  Time will answer all questions.
