September 2026 US Leading Economic Indicators

The latest U.S. Leading Economic Index shows an economy maintaining a steady course, holding virtually unchanged and signaling near-term stability rather than a sharp shift up or down.

While the metric offers a key glimpse into where the market is heading, economists emphasize that it should be evaluated alongside broader economic data. A look into the report’s underlying components reveals mixed signals across key sectors: manufacturing showed signs of improvement, driven by an uptick in weekly working hours, but those gains were tempered by a notable drop in consumer expectations.

Overall, the index paints a picture of resilience rather than rapid growth, pointing to a balanced and stable economic backdrop in the months ahead.

US Leading Economic Indicators

  • The index was unchanged in September 2026 at 99.6, following a 0.1 percent drop in August.

  • The index grew 0.6 percent from March to September 2026, recovering from a 1.1 percent fall in the previous six months.

  • Five of the ten underlying metrics rose, driven by favorable interest rate spreads and longer weekly manufacturing hours.

  • A sharp drop in consumer expectations offset those gains.

  • The matching coincident index shows current economic activity remains stable.

What an Independent Voter Might Look For?: U.S. Senate Debate MI

(Illustrative Only)
When asked

a time. Eventually,
you will have a
pretty good trail;

🙃
This was an interesting debate and it was well worth watching. Thinking of how one might look at this from an independent voter perspective. That is open to some debate but we can try. An independent voter might evaluate a debate by looking for clear, practical strategies, a willingness to work across party lines, and a focus on constructive solutions.

When reviewing this debate, an observer might see opportunities for both candidates to lay out step-by-step plans for long-term issues like inflation, energy costs, and healthcare. Addressing these complex challenges might require exploring multiple options and listening to key community stakeholders.

An independent voter might also hope for more time spent explaining positive action plans. A candidate with a detailed vision might focus heavily on sharing their own solutions, helping voters clearly understand how their proposed policies would work in practice.

Finally, an observer might look for signs of collaboration, knowing that passing lasting legislation in a divided government requires finding common ground. Showing a willingness to build consensus across party lines might demonstrate how a leader plans to deliver real results for everyone.

This is part of a hypothetical thought experiment on the 'hypothetical Feather Party' that creates a type of third lens where independent voters loosely collaborate vote without party-line expectations. i.e. a party that is kind of not a party. One might encourage free expression and exploration of ideas beyond party loyalties.

Early Alert by the VA: Harvard Study Predicts Suicide Attempts

Supporting our veterans demands our utmost commitment and standard of care. The sacrifices made by service members often leave lasting physical and psychological burdens—scarring experiences shaped by exposure to the harsh realities of conflict that many in civilian life may never fully comprehend or appreciate. Too often, veterans face unfair judgment from a society unaware of the profound weight they carry.

Emerging research highlights innovative ways we can better serve this community. For instance, a recent study demonstrates how mobile technology and data-driven insights can predict suicide attempts up to a week in advance, offering a powerful tool for timely, life-saving intervention.

Understanding and addressing veteran wellness requires leveraging every opportunity available. Beyond mental health support, businesses can help by providing stable employment, fair wages, educational opportunities, and pathways for professional growth as essential. Hiring and empowering veterans is not only a practical response to their sacrifices, but also a meaningful patriotic duty.

Harvard Study Predicts Most Suicide Attempts a Week in Advance

  • Research led by Harvard psychologist Matthew K. Nock successfully used smartphone technology to survey high-risk adults and adolescents in real time.

  • The predictive technology successfully forecast 75 percent of suicide attempts and 87 percent of suicide-related crises in the week before they occurred.

  • The findings mark a major leap forward from traditional prediction models, which historically performed little better than random chance.

  • The approach relies on ecological momentary assessment, gathering frequent real-world data about participants' emotional states, thoughts, and behaviors through mobile devices.

  • Experts hope that identifying these high-risk windows days in advance will allow for timely, targeted interventions to save lives.

When Ideology and Systemic Hate Undermines Justice: The Need to Protect Victims and Restore Public Trust (A Hypothetical Thought Experiment)

An independent judiciary, accountable leadership, and meaningful protections for victims are essential to maintaining public confidence in the justice system.

Judges play a vital role in society. Their responsibility is to uphold the law, ensure fairness, and protect the integrity of the judicial process. Yet what happens when ideology, political allegiance, personal prejudice, or extremist influences (foreign or domestic inspired) interfere with the pursuit of justice?

This is where we sort of get into learning stories and the importance of exploration no matter what we as s dociety decide.

Let us pretend and envision that the consequences of court promoted extremism and years of corruption can be devastating, particularly for victims who depend on the legal system for protection, accountability, and a justice. Even more so for society that should be rooted in certain shared beliefs of human freedom and dignity. Beyond this we can consider the economic consequences of human capital loss and its potential for societal enhancement and rejuvenation. There is much harm in normalized dehumanization in some elite circles.

Judges, like all public officials, can make mistakes. They may reach decisions based on incomplete information, inaccurate testimony, or cherry picked evidence that later proves misleading. Even worse if the evidence was illegally gathered, backroom deals were made, friends and in-group were given preference, and non-confirming inforation ommitted (Think of these highly coordinated unconstitutional crimes against certain members of society.). However, when new information emerges and previous unexamined assumptions are shown to be wrong, the responsibility to reconsider those decisions does not disappear. A credible justice system must have effective mechanisms for correcting errors and addressing failures. Victim dumping based on hate or corruption should not be an unwritten purpose or assumption of justice.

(Keep in mind we have filters that come from our backgrounds, social networks, beliefs, religious, etc. and that may impact the weight of options leading people to prefer the familiar and those who confirm their personal beliefs. This heuristic path can lead to terrible things in society and history when people fail to reflect and dehumanize others. Second class citizenship is formed on the roots of segregation except the underlining mechanics can be applied to various religions and peoples. It is a human problem that institutions with missions are supposed to mitigate.)

When officials lack the qualifications, independence, or integrity required for their positions, public confidence suffers. The problem becomes even more serious when appointments and promotions are influenced by political loyalty rather than professional competence, or when officials appear to impose their ideological beliefs on the people they promise to serve (Those focused on self-gain are often willing to promise things before they get into office and not deliver on them after. It applies to any party or person though history.). It is not their place to promote certain races, religions and ideologies above others as it has an impact on trust and performance. Eventually broad support. The stats can at times reveal difficult problems.

When Warning Signs Are Ignored

Consider the troubling scenario presented in the Allegory of the Clan: allegations that authorities permitted or failed to prevent targeted aggression while overlooking similar reports of misconduct affecting other individuals and communities. The couldn't see themselves for what they could be under the wrong circumstances unless they learned to reflect (The theory of mirrors and neuroeconomic and sociological choices. In theory.)

The broader concerns extend beyond any single case. Allegations of misconduct by a rogue group of corrupted and extremist leaning enforcement officers—including open public rumors of sexual misconduct, the exchange of sexual favors for leniency on driving-under-the-influence charges, targeting minorities and Native Americans, violations of freedom of speech, sexual exploitation involving minors, open promotion ones religion in an effort to suppress other religious beliefs, alleged multiple victims of forced suicide, judges that help in group members, years of misconduct. etc. would warrant serious and impartial investigation. Not the ones that seem to focus on specifuc outcomes that sweep under the carpet crimes that never get resovler without undermining minorities in someway.

They knew the answers before they know the questions. 🤷

As the learning story goes the public knew about the wrongdoing and have indicated that a network of corrupted and extremist leaning officials and a judge were intentionally undermining the rights of others and the basic consititutional protections to promote in-group benefits and distorted ideological beliefs.

The perpetrators felt personal entitlement to location in history even though the targets generational connection to the land was much longer than theirs and they had a much longer historical record of supporting society throughout the generations. The narratives promoted collective dehumanization. While they may be a small percentage it is unfair to the vast majority of good officers, judges and society to have immunized behaviors that intentionally have few checks and balances. If they wanted to fix it they would have. Intentional incompetence and neglect of basic rights is not what should be fostered. We want to build the best system that promotes the most qualified, removes any criminal element, and undoes the harm to victims. Narratives against victims and victim dumping isn't the right approach and it impacts the foundations (See how the most extreme and politically connected do more harm than good and we should not as a society tolerate it. We should expect officials up the chain to support societal rights.

(Sorry I'm introducing the element that when changing the lens the pepetrators were not patriotic in the sense of loyalty to principle but to ideology and nationalistic perspective based on superficial reasons. They have dollar deep values. By the same metrics by which they judged others they would have come up short indicating the ideology used is not well thoughtout and not particually helpful for society. They only see what benefits them and what fits within their underdeveloped lens. Thus intimidation and aggression is needed to 'make the sale' of their entitlement. In theory.)

Where credible complaints persist, officials have a responsibility to examine the evidence, protect vulnerable people, and ensure that allegations are not dismissed for political or personal reasons. Constantly thinking about purpose and reorienting toward true north is a sacred duty and responsibility of leadership. This is why we support what is good and challenge what is bad.

The concern becomes particularly grave if a judge or other authority is shown to have known about credible risks yet failed to act. The victims are disposable for ideological reasons (the second class citizen is born.). If decisions are influenced by hostility toward racial or religious minorities, rather than evidence and the law, the resulting harm extends beyond individual victims. It undermines the principle that justice must be administered equally. Trust in the capacity of the system declines much like trust in a company that neglects its customers.

Likewise, good officers had to work with this criminal network but were afraid to speak up for fear of retaliation. They have experieced and witness this prior so one cannot fully blame them for the preservation of self when there are no good choices (In our learning story they finally gained 'a pair' and did the right thing.). Investigations into wrong doing were falsified, misleading and came with a conclusion quickly based on intentionally dishonest inforation. Good people knew that and began through the natural systems to act (Natural systems are the underlining systems of life and society that apply universally as part of a species and can't fully be legislated out of human existence. No mater how much freedom of religion, human rights, freedom of speech and social contracts are undermined. )

A Justice System Must Protect Victims

A functioning justice system must recognize the rights of everyone involved, including defendants, victims, witnesses, and the wider community. Due process and the rights of the accused are fundamental, but those protections should not come at the expense of victims' safety, dignity, or access to justice.

Too often, victims may feel abandoned when complaints are ignored, investigations stall, or institutions appear more concerned with protecting their own reputations than addressing alleged wrongdoing. Sometimes this is intentional. Foreign religous hate, mixed with domestic notions of segregation, and long stemming use of technicalties to violate central laws and generational values increasingly common.

Even when most judges, officers, and public officials act honorably, their efforts can be undermined if misconduct is tolerated within their ranks. Continued professional cooperation with colleagues accused of serious wrongdoing is not, by itself, proof of complicity. However, knowingly concealing misconduct, obstructing investigations, or failing to respond to credible threats can raise profound questions about institutional accountability.

Depending on where you sit in values you may say 0% chance of wrong doing or 100% chance of wrongdoing but these are just extreme projections. Chances are they are in between and one might indicate that a relatively high liklihood that all of the complaints, concerns, and outcomes were not just invented. Understanding the difference between rumor and fact. Yet rumor often has at it core a truth.

No organization should be permitted to treat allegations of wrongdoing as unimportant simply because investigating them would be politically inconvenient or socially uncomfortable. No one should decide these things by race, religion, politics and foreign influence. It would be helpful to see a public outline of what the courts are going to do to protect the public from any future mistreatment if they exist. They seem to rarely have a reasonable plan.

Accountability Must Be Above Ideology

When the acceptance or denial of wrongdoing appears to depend on religious affiliation, political identity, race, or social influence, the integrity of public institutions is placed at risk.

The law must be applied consistently. No individual should receive preferential treatment because of political connections, and no victim should be denied justice because of race, religion, personal beliefs, or an unpopular opinion. Moral conscious is a prerequisite to moral leadership.

Restoring public confidence requires more than assurances that the system works. People have heard that before. It requires demonstrable accountability, transparent procedures, and a willingness to correct mistakes—even when doing so is uncomfortable for those in positions of authority. The danger of kissing rings.

Praise what is good and the good people do because the vast majority are honorable and faithful servants of the public. A minority of criminals and bigots should not define the whole. However, we have a responsibility to ensure wrongdoing is undone and protections are in place. No matter which tools of retaliation (ranging from violence to using instititutions to force people out of jobs for doing the right thing. Their loyalty to our oaths weak in some cases. )

Practical Reforms Are Essential

Several measures deserve serious consideration:

  • Independent oversight: Establish impartial mechanisms for investigating credible allegations of judicial and law enforcement misconduct.
  • Merit-based appointments: Prioritize qualifications, professional ethics, demonstrated competence, and independence over political loyalty.
  • Meaningful victim protections: Improve access to reporting mechanisms, legal support, safety measures, and information about the progress of complaints.
  • Transparent review procedures: Ensure that credible new evidence can trigger appropriate reconsideration of decisions and conduct.
  • Protection for whistleblowers: Safeguard individuals who report misconduct from retaliation or professional punishment.
  • Consistent enforcement: Apply the same standards of investigation and accountability regardless of a person's political, religious, racial, or social standing.

These safeguards would not eliminate every instance of misconduct or error. They would, however, help make it more difficult for serious failures to go unchallenged.

Restoring Trust Through Action

Public trust declines when people believe that institutions are unwilling to acknowledge wrongdoing or that powerful individuals are protected while vulnerable people are left to fend for themselves. That may be by design.

The solution is neither to condemn every official nor to assume that every allegation is true. It is to create a system in which complaints are investigated impartially, evidence is taken seriously, decisions can be challenged through appropriate procedures, and proven misconduct carries meaningful consequences.

A fair justice system must protect the rights of the accused while ensuring that victims are heard, protected, and treated with dignity. It must also hold judges and other public officials accountable when they fail to meet their obligations.

If institutional failures can occur, the answer is not denial or silence. It is stronger oversight, better leadership, and practical reforms that put the rule of law above ideology. Reversing the wrong.

Justice cannot depend on political convenience, personal prejudice, or social influence. It must depend on evidence, fairness, and accountability. Even when they play with it to spite the very purpose of a nation. Restoring public trust begins when institutions demonstrate that these principles apply to everyone—and that no victim is beyond the reach of justice. Reversing the wrongdoing and giving value to all the victims this group created should not be optional on who is running for which office and what ideology they promote at the expense of others. Vote your conscience. Encourage the best and brightest and not the most vetted. We have a much more important responsibility to the next generation than telling those who embraced wrongdoing what they want to hear.

Perhaps we should have them reaffirm their oaths to this country and its people even if its unpopular in their connected networks.
